Even though you may think high definition video is just for your television, it isn’t. You can get that very same quality on your home movies as well. You can turn your home movies and precious memories into works of art with HD.

Amateur home video producers alike will truly love the high quality of HD. With HDV (high definition video), you can record superb high definition video onto a digital video tape.

Benefits of HDV
You don’t really need to understand how HDV works to truly appreciate the benefits. All you need to do is spend a few minutes watching a video recorded on a Sony HDV video camera and you’ll see everything you need to know.

If you already know about HDV, there are many more reasons as to why you should pick HDV video cameras:
1. The amazing picture quality of HD is no longer limited to Hollywood and professionals. You too can now use HDV technology to capture the important memories of your life with life like color, vivid contrast, and amazing HD video.

2. HDV recording offers low noise, high accuracy, rich, and very vivid color.

3. The sound tracks for HDV use MPEG 1 audio layer 2 digital encoding to give your videos the sound quality of CDs at a much lower bitrate.

4. HDV uses the same tapes that are already popular for DV recording, with the recording time being the same as well.

5. HDV also uses MPEG 2 compression, which is used in digital broadcasts and also DVDs.

6. HDV uses a higher compression rate than DV, making it more reliable and less subjectible to errors.
Technology behind HDV
The HDV format handles the same bitrate as the DV format, although HDV records a high definition signal. This will allow you to record HD video on the same tapes used for DV recordings. A signal with HDV has 4.5 times as much data as a DV signal used with NTSC. HDV also includes CD quality sound, MPEG 2 compression, real time encoding, and so much more.

When compared to other HD formats, HDV is one of the best, if not the best. Sony has always been known for quality, which makes HDV no exception to the rule. This format has been years in the making, which helps to make it what it is today.

If you’ve been looking for the perfect type of video camera, rest assured that HDV is it. If you buy a Sony HDV type camera, you’ll know that your precious memories will be perfect HD quality – each and every time.

We all love entertainment. It’s that relaxing break from the norm. The film industries provide us with a certain escapism, which allows us to be someone else for 90 minutes, or just leap out of our mundane lives. While the film industries may be a wonderful part of our culture, they are not so easy to excel in. Breaking into the film business can be an up-hill battle not fully understood until you give it a try. For some odd reason, your connections seem to take precedence over all.

The film industries have been around for the last century. The magic of movie making leaves us all in awe. Today there are a number of schools you can attend to better your chances of penetrating the Hollywood wall, but be ready for some competition. If you take a look at L.A., you may wonder why so many young people are flocking there. They all want that big break in the film industry. They want to be stars. A close friend of mine headed to L.A. just for that reason. When he called me a few months later, he said that everyone he would encounter that bartended or waited tables, was there for the same reason. The competition is unbelievable. Although this is the case, the film industries always have room for more talent. Granted, if you have family in the business, you are certainly better off. Hollywood is a connections game. Who you know, can make your career. When I say this, I don’t mean that you do not need talent. I simply mean that your talent can be more easily recognized with the right connections.

Film schools are located all over the U.S., just waiting for that new talent to come through. We all have to start somewhere. If film is your forte, try attending a film school or getting a film minor from your University, if offered. This way you can get a better grasp of the film industry before tackling it in the real world. When I decided I wanted to write movies, my first thought was to learn how. Achieve that necessary talent in order to vi with the many other aspiring screenwriters. This is no easy business. There is competition galore. I recall the reality check I got in my first screenwriting course. My professor told us that 100,000 screenplays are written every year. Wow, what a downer! Regardless, you must move on and strive for your place in the film industry. You will never know if you don’t try. With the information and schooling available at your fingertips, you can easily hop online and get started.

Today’s auto market is becoming more and more diversified, with Hummers lining up next to Smart Cars and Geo Metros in dealer lots. One of the first things many people do when they bring home a new vehicle is to make it theirs by adding custom touches. Bored spouses and kids make in car DVD systems one of the hottest new upgrades on the auto market.

Imagine, you’re headed across the country with your family to visit the in-laws in Omaha, and your kids are driving you nuts. A car DVD system allows you to pop in one of their favorite movies and have them entertained for hours while on the road.

There are two main types of in car DVD systems: portable and in-dash. Portable systems, though not as sleek or worry-free as the in-dash systems, are considerably cheaper and more versatile. They are usually powered by your car’s 12-volt power adapter but can be converted to run from your home’s power supply, allowing you to take the DVD player and monitor into your in-laws house when your happy family arrives.

In-dash car DVD systems are hardwired into your vehicle’s entertainment system. They display movies either on a screen in the center-console, on a screen that descends from the roof of the vehicle, or on a screen which flips up from the dashboard. Though these systems aren’t portable outside the vehicle, once installed they don’t require any extra cords or setup: you can load in your movies and drive away. Screens located either on the center console or which flip up from the dashboard can double as displays for in-car GPS or navigation software, but they can be distracting to drivers. The flip-down screens avoid driver distraction, but they are usually only convenient for back-seat viewing, leaving a front seat passenger to count license plates or play I-Spy with the driver.

In car DVD systems are perhaps the biggest boon to the long family road trip since Car Bingo, and as the technology improves you can expect the systems to get smaller, lighter, and cheaper. Though portable systems are still the choice for families on the go since they require no expensive installation or conversion, more and more auto manufacturers have plans to include built-in systems in their vehicles, especially upscale and family autos. It may be tough to find a driver for your next road trip, as the entire family will be stretched out in the back seat, munching on popcorn and watching a film.

Are you in the mood for a great flick? Hey, I’ve got an idea you’ll surely love. Get up off that couch and head to the closest movie theater. For a mere 8.50 you can get in and watch that brand new flick on the big screen. Hey, but don’t forget to bring an extra 50 bucks for popcorn, candy and a soft drink. After all, what would a wonderful outing to the theater be without refreshments? Wait a minute. That actually doesn’t sound ideal at all. Who in the heck made going to the movies so expensive anyway? Well, regardless of how pricey movie theaters have become in more recent times, one thing is for certain; you can simply rent the movies you love and forget about the gargantuan bill. Take the Blockbuster video store down the street for instance. They will rent you a flick for under five bucks and you can enjoy that one in the privacy of your own home. Any takers?

Are you an avid Blockbuster video store nut? If you’re not, who are all those people I constantly witness heading in and out of that place? I would say that any Blockbuster video store has to pull in a good sum of cash each and every day. Of course much more on the weekends. There’s just something about movies. None of us can ever seem to get enough of them. We watch and we watch and we watch. Then when we’re finished with all that watching, we plop down on the sofa and watch a little more. You know, to wind down from all the watching. The great thing about renting movies these days is the new-age access. We can almost say goodbye to the classic Blockbuster video store, and say hello to cyberspace. As I’m sure you’ve encountered at one point or another, you can literally rent movies from your laptop now days. I’m talking about a Blockbuster video store on the World-Wide-Web. Not to mention its competitors. I guess it was bound to happen sooner or later. Convenience is our middle name. I’m referring too human beings of course.

Are you searching for a local Blockbuster video store, but coming up short? Hey, don’t worry about it. You can find a Blockbuster video store closer than you thought. Get online now and check out the infinite movie rentals at your disposal. In today’s world of entertainment, you can have your cake and eat it too. Or should I say popcorn?

Even though both CD and DVD disks have the same media size and shape, the things they have in common ends there. There are many different things between the two, such as what they hold and how much they hold.

Data pits and lasers

A disc has microscopic grooves that will move along in a spiral around the disc. CDs and DVDs both have these grooves, with laser breams applied to scan these very grooves.

As you may know, digital information is represented in ones and zeroes. Inside of these discs, very tiny reflective bumps known as lands and non reflective holes known as pits, which can be found beside the grooves, reflect both the ones and the zeroes of digital information.

By reducing the wave length of the laser to 625mm or more infrared light, DVD technology has managed to write in smaller pits when compared to the standard technology of CD. This will allow for a greater amount of data per track on the DVD. The minimum length allowed for a pit in a single layer DVD-R is .4 micron, which is obviously more than the .0834 micron that a CD offers.

The tracks of a DVD are narrower as well, which allows for more tracks per disc, which also translates into more capacity than a CD. The avaerage single layer DVD holds 4.5 GB of data, while a CD holds a mere 700 MB.

Layers
As stated above, a DVD has smaller pits and the lasers need to focus on them. This is actually achieved by using a thinner plastic substrate than in a CD, which means that the laser needs to pass through a thinner layer, with less depth to reach the pits. It’s this reduction in thickness that’s responsible for the discs that were only 0.6mm thickness – which is half that of a CD.

Data access speed
DVDs will access data at a much faster rate than a CD can. The average 32X CD-ROM drive reads data at 4MB a second, while a 1X DVD drive reads at 1.38MB a second. This is even faster than an 8X CD drive.

Universal data format
The recording formats of CDs and DVDs are quite different, as DVDs use UDF, or the Universal Data Format. This format allows data, video, audio, or even a combination of all three to be stored in a single file structure. The advantage to this is any file can be accessed by any drive, computer, or even consumer video. CDs on the other hand aren’t compatible with this format.

I’ve always loved going to the movies. Our local movie theatre was a popular hangout, especially when I was in middle school. Every Friday night our parents would dump us off at the theatre where we’d buy popcorn and sodas and gossip during the movie, crunching our feet on the sticky floors and rocking back and forth in the squeaky seats. Though it smelled a little musty, the movie theatre was the scene of a lot of adolescent firsts; first dates, first kisses, first breakups, first fights. My first date was at the theatre in the sixth grade; my dad sat in the row behind us in the theatre. I can’t quite remember what the movie was, since I really wasn’t paying much attention.

It’s tough to go to the movies for $2 anymore. Though if you look you can still find a few budget theatres, they’re few and far between. When I got to college I couldn’t afford going to the movies every weekend, so I started watching movies at home. DVD rental stores are more popular than ever, and their selections are better than most of the films showing in the theatre these days anyway. They’re also a lot cheaper, a blessing for a poor college student.

Netflix, a by-mail DVD rental company, will send you as many DVDs you can watch in a month. They are the pioneers of DVD rental by mail, and for a $20/month subscription fee you can compile a list of DVDs you want sent to your home. They’ll send them in batches, and when you’re done watching the DVDs you can mail them back in the supplied envelopes. When Netflix receives your DVDs they’ll send out the next few on your list, letting you order the DVDs by phone or online. Blockbuster, a longtime leader in both VHS and DVD rental, picked up on Netflix’s lead and now offers a similar program, allowing you to either order their DVDs through the mail or to pick them up in their brick and mortar stores; as many as you want for a monthly fee.

Though I miss my local movie theatre, it’s tough to beat the current DVD rental options. I can watch more movies for less money than the cheap seats, and I can even have the movies delivered to my home. If only I had a bigger TV and a stickier floor I could edge out the local theatre in every respect.
